The ‘INTERREG NEXT MED’ Program has been published. Interreg NEXT MED is a Program funded by the European Union (EU) that supports transnational cooperation through the funding of joint projects, aiming to make the Mediterranean region more resilient to the common challenges it faces.
With a budget of 263 million euros, Interreg NEXT MED aims to contribute to smart, sustainable, and fair development for all across the Mediterranean basin, supporting balanced, long-term, lasting, extensive cooperation and multi-level governance. The program’s mission is to fund cooperation projects addressing common socio-economic, environmental, and governance challenges at the Mediterranean level, such as the adoption of advanced technologies, competitiveness in SMEs and job creation, energy efficiency, water management, adaptation to climate change, transition to a circular economy, education and training, and healthcare.
Recognizing the unique added value of transnational cooperation for the development of the Mediterranean region, each project must be submitted by a partnership representing at least 3 organizations from 3 different eligible countries, including at least one Mediterranean country outside Europe.
Depending on the type of projects foreseen for this call – thematic, youth-oriented, and governance – the EU financial support will range from 623,000 to 3.5 million euros. The EU contribution cannot exceed 89% of the total eligible project costs.
